Frequently Asked Questions About Fred Astaire Dance Studios
1. Do I need a partner to take lessons?
No, you do not need a partner. We regularly teach both individuals or couples.
2. I don’t know how to dance, I have two left feet, and I’m not
sure I can learn.
Most people who have never taken golf lessons are not surprised that they do
not know how to golf. However, when it comes to dance, people seem to think
that they should naturally just “know” how to dance. Fred Astaire
once said, “Some people seem to feel that good dancers are born. But all
the good dancers I have known are taught or trained…” Do not worry
if you have never danced before – that’s why we are here! We can
teach you. Dancing is like learning any other activity – with instruction
and practice, you will greatly improve your abilities and learn to dance.
3. What types of dance do you teach?
We teach ballroom, social, latin, country western, and club dancing. For those
of you who have seen “Dancing With The Stars,” we teach every style
of dance that appears on the show.
4. Do you teach children?
Yes. Although the majority of our students are adults, we do have students
that are teenagers or even younger.
5. My husband and I want to take lesssons but we have children. Can
we take them to the studio with us?
Yes, you can. We have a comfortable lobby and cable television – many
couples bring their children with them for lessons. Children can sit at tables
along the edge of the dance floor or in the lobby; they normally seem to enjoy
watching their parent(s) dance, or watching the Disney Channel on the TV…
6. Do you have a singles night?
No, we do not currently have a singles night. Some people take dance lessons
to meet new friends, meet someone special, or even to make social or business
contacts. Many people find that our group classes, weekly parties, and studio
activities (trips, night out in San Antonio, regional competitions, etc) are
an excellent way to meet new people.
7. Where are you located?
We are just east of Loop 1604 and Stone Oak Parkway. Please see the “About
Us” page for directions and a Google map to the studio.
8. How do I get started?
Call the studio and book your first lesson! 210-497-FRED.
9. Do you have an Introductory Special?
Yes. For new students we offer a $25 Introductory Special: 2 private lessons
and 1 group class for just $25. Call the studio and acquire a new hobby that
will shape the rest of your life.
10. What should I wear when I come in?
Something comfortable that you can move around in. For shoes, guys should wear
a comfortable dress shoe that has a suede or leather bottom. For girls, wear
a comfortable shoe that has an ankle strap so that your foot doesn’t come
out.
11. Is dancing great exercise?
Yes! A 45 minute lesson is approximately equivalent to jogging 2 miles. Dancing
is an excellent, fun way to lose weight, develop better posture, poise, and
confidence.
